Detox and Fitness Print E-mail

When one mentions the word detox, it often leads to two contrasting types of reaction. Firstly, there are the people who tense up at the first indication of detox and pretend not to hear you. Then there is the other group of people who brighten up at the thought of flushing out toxins.

Detoxifying is not all about deprivation. In fact, it is quite the reverse whereby the body is completely looked after. The result is a better body and calmer mind for a sporting life. Gentle exercises like walking and jogging are recommended to get the body moving and accelerating the detoxification process. There are many detox methods available and it is always wise and safe to do some research before you embark on any that is suitable for yourself. Here, we share two simple detox methods:

The Alkaline Detox
The alkaline diet is based on the premise that illnesses are caused by over-acidity in the body through consuming acid foods like meat, dairy, saturated fats, refined sugars, coffee, alcohol etc. The solution to this is to increase the level of alkalinity in the body. Since water makes up for 60% of our body weight, by hydrating ourselves with alkaline water, it can relieve and reduce the three main causes of diseases – dehydration, over-acidity and premature of aging cells. Other foods like fresh vegetables, low-sugar fruits, ‘good’ fats, nuts, seeds etc. are also recommended.

The Beetroot Liver Detox
Beetroot is being researched intensively in the medical field due to its ability in breaking up cancerous cells and is also a powerful agent in detoxifying the liver. The chemical betaine found in beetroots stimulates and protects liver cells. It is also reported to build red corpuscles in the blood. The beetroot liver detox will stimulate your bowel movements and it is best to start on 1/4 cup per day and slowly increase depending on your comfort level.
