5 Simple Ways to Curb Food Cravings Print E-mail

If you find that you have regular food cravings, it means that you are not eating well and need to improve on your diet to end the cravings. People who exercise a lot and have carbohydrate cravings could be caused by a reduction of glycogen stores, which carbohydrates replenish.

Most of the time, our hunger is a cry from an unhappy body encumbered by emotions or stress. The mind takes it as a signal to feed our body.  Hence, many of us eat in an attempt to seek solace and comfort or as a form of momentary escape.

Below are 5 ways to curb our food cravings.

1) Bikram Yoga
Deep stretching releases lots of negative emotions and stress that are stored in our muscles. Practicing Bikram Yoga increases your positive energy and gives you a better awareness and understanding of your body.  Not only will you be re-conditioned to eat what your body really needs to, you will find that your food tastes better now that all your senses are more “alive” than ever before.

2) Set Short Term Goals
Take things slowly by focusing on getting through the next 24 hours without succumbing to temptation instead of overwhelming yourself.

3) Treats Do Matter
Try rewarding yourself with a small treat for being in track with your goals, such as a new nail polish, a plant for your garden or even extra minutes in bed. Remember to keep the momentum going and build up to a big pat on the back- perhaps a visit to a day spa.

4) Healthy Pick-me-ups Every 3 Hours
One of the biggest culprits for emotional eating is falling blood sugar levels. Since you need to fill your stomach, try one or more of the following healthy treats, which taste great and have valuable amounts of nutrients, such as collagen-rich cherries and sugarless cakes. If snacking healthy still does not help, you know your craving is psychological.

5) Drink Alkaline Water
Dehydration often confuses the body and will make you feel even hungrier. A small glass of water every hour will keep your stomach full and well hydrated while alkaline water can help to neutralize acidity in the body.
