As a lead-up to the Amore Women's Day Out (AWDO) 2010, to be held on 6 March 2010 at the Civic Plaza, Ngee Ann City, the Singapore Sports Council and title sponsor Amore Fitness jointly held a road show at Jurong Point on 24 Oct 2009; to introduce to women the idea of intensive aerobic workout. For half an hour in the evening, kickboxing instructors from Amore Fitness led more than 50 enthusiastic participants in performing a physically demanding routine that incorporated punches, kicks, elbow strikes and other sophisticated moves. "A healthy lifestyle is all about seeking a balance between exercising well and maintaining a healthy diet," proclaimed the lead instructor, Edlyn Chua, 25. The well-toned fitness instructor intrigued the participants with a commanding display on stage. When asked on how she managed to finish the entire demanding routine so effortlessly, the charming instructor laughed, "We're fitness instructors! This is what we do day in, day out!" On advice on what we can do to keep ourselves physically fit and healthy, Edlyn suggested that the key to leading a healthy lifestyle is to be consistent in one's pursuit for overall fitness. We can never get a sculpted body overnight. It takes months, sometimes even years, to change the way we look through exercising. If we are persistent enough, the fruits of the labour will definitely be rewarding. However Edlyn also sounded a word of caution to women who have just started working out. "Everyone has different physical abilities. Therefore, it is very important to pace yourself." It is also not advisable to work out every day as it is physically taxing; therefore the sturdy instructor advised a five times a week workout rate to avoid unnecessary injuries that could hamper further progress. Women should seek a combination in their pursuit of a well-toned body and overall fitness. It should include exercises that improve cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, and strength. Therefore a variety of workouts is highly recommended.
